Create Your Braintrust
What is a Braintrust?
A Braintrust is a group of trusted advisors or peers that you consult when making significant decisions in your personal and professional life.
The Purpose is to leverage collective wisdom and diverse perspectives to help you navigate challenges, innovate, and achieve your goals quicker as a solopreneur.
The truth is being a solopreneur is hard work but it does not have to be lonely.
Feeling overwhelmed, when I first started my online business I decided to reach out to a few trusted mentors and experts in the industry. I formed a small Braintrust, a group of advisors who could provide me with diverse perspectives and tips & hacks.
This group included a marketing expert (which I was totally new too), a expert gamer & Instructional designer (to help me make my e-learning more engaging and up-to-date , and a fellow entrepreneur who had successfully navigated the e-learning landscape so they could share what Not to do, and we could accelerate our learning together.
Identifying Your Potential Braintrust Members
3-5 people:
Close friends & family that care about you and and genuinely want the best for you
Peers - Individuals from your network or people you admire already working in the field you are entering can provide current, relevant advice and insights.
Mentors and Coaches: Experienced individuals who have achieved what you aspire to accomplish can offer guidance and share lessons learned from their own journeys.
Questions to Ask Yourself:
1. What are the top 3 business tasks where other people's insights could greatly accelerate your learning and growth?
2. Do you know anyone already working on the challenge you are trying to solve?
3. Who are the peers you think are already successful in this space that could mentor you?
4. What is the lifestyle you would like to live? (4 day work-weeks, work from anywhere, travel like a digital nomad etc.) Do you know anyone who is already living that lifestyle while earning a sustainable income?

Example Email for Inviting Braintrust Members
Example 1- Email to the Marketing Expert
Subject: Invitation to Join My Braintrust
Hi [Marketing Expert’s Name],
I hope this email finds you well. My name is Madison, and I’m reaching out to you because of your expertise in marketing and your impressive track record in helping businesses create compelling brand stories and effective marketing strategies. I’m in the process of launching an online business focused on helping millennials escape the corporate grind by starting their own businesses. I’m looking to create a Braintrust of advisors to guide me through this journey.
A Braintrust is a small group of trusted advisors who provide guidance, feedback, and support on an ongoing basis. I believe that with your marketing to Millennials experience, you could offer invaluable advice that would help shape the marketing strategy and growth of my Solopreneur Accelerator online program.
Mutual Benefits:
For You: An opportunity to share your knowledge and insights, connect with like-minded professionals, and potentially gain exposure through my business as it grows.
For Me: Access to your marketing expertise, strategic guidance, and creative ideas to help build a strong brand presence and effectively reach my target audience.
Expectations:
Time Commitment: I anticipate we would have a brief monthly meeting or call, and occasional email exchanges as needed.
Role: Your role would involve providing feedback on marketing strategies, suggesting content improvements, and sharing social media trends that could benefit my business.
I would be honored if you could join my Braintrust. Your support and insights would be incredibly valuable to me. Please let me know if you’re interested, and we can discuss further details.
Thank you for considering my invitation.
Best regards,
Madison
